2013 Mission Statement: Each One Reach One

UMW

The organization of The United Methodist Women  is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.  They seek to develop a creative, supportive fellowship for women of all ages.  The UMW (as it is called) seeks to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the United Methodist Church.

Some of the events we have planned for the remainder of the year are as follows:  The last Saturday in April we travel to Dauphin Island for a a week-long retreat at a home on the beach.  In addition to the study, we walk the beach, search for shells and other interesting beach items, we share with each other, we laugh, we cry, play games and just enjoy the wonderful beauty of this part of our world.  Four circles meet each month September through May either at church or in homes.  June, July and August we meet as a group for a covered dish meal and Mission Study.  Everyone is invited to attend these meetings.  We also hold a Vacation Bible School at Methodist Home for Children in Mandeville, LA; go to Dulac Community Center for a work day and to Sager Brown in Baldwin, LA to help with a project there.

In October, we all participate in the church-wide "Fall Show" and also host a "Trunk or Treat" night for the children on Halloween. In November, we fill Thanksgiving Baskets and in December we are involved in a very festive "Christmas Tea" and participate in gift-giving for families in need.

UMW Sponsors Letters to Servicemen and Women
All members are encouraged to send Christmas cards or general cards to the servicemen and women on our prayer list that are in the U.S. military and serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.  You can find the available addresses in the Prayers for our Military Binder in the narthex.  Let's all join together to let these brave and loyal people know that we care about them and support them. Read more
